Father Benedict La Volpe Discusses Historic Veneration of the Bones of Saint Francis of Assisi

Father Benedict La Volpe, a Franciscan all the way from Australia, got to see the sacred bones of Saint Francis of Assisi. These relics are on display for the first time since 1978 to honor the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’ death. La Volpe, along with other friars and pilgrims, was blessed with the opportunity to encounter these sacred remains.

“They’ve encountered the spirit of Francis, the person of Francis, who speaks to them today, 800 years after his death,” says Fr. La Volpe.

Father Benedict La Volpe was interviewed by Vatican News to discuss the gravity of this experience, how it has impacted him, his fellow friars, and the pilgrims that were with them.
