For more than 800 years, Franciscan friars have relied upon the generosity of others to reach out to the poor and marginalized in our world, bringing the Good News of God’s Love in Christ Jesus. Today, the Province of Saint Bonaventure relies on charitable gifts to support three main priorities.

Area of the Most Need

A donation without restrictions allows the province to respond where the need is greatest, ensuring the friars can continue to serve in humility and charity in relationship with one another as brothers. Each year the province spends around $400,000 on household expenses.

Greater Mission Impact

The province pays for transportation, fuel, and vehicle upkeep.

The province pays for household utilities for the Chicago House of Studies and friary.

The province pays for kitchen and pantry staples for friars, postulants, and guests.

Vocations​

Support the formation and education of the next generation of friars. The annual cost of vocational formation is around $65,000 per student friar for those attending university and seminary.

Retired & Infirm Friars

Support Franciscan friars who are retired or infirm and have spent years caring for others. The annual average cost of healthcare for a friar living in the Saint Bonaventure province is over $40,000.

The province pays for Medicare for friars.

The province pays assisted living costs.

The province pays for medical costs of infirmed and retired friars.

Safeguarding Statement

The Franciscan Friars Conventual of St. Bonaventure Province are committed to creating safe environments for children and vulnerable adults.

Every friar in active ministry must complete training in Virtus (the National Catholic Risk Retention Group) and any other safe environment compliances required by the dioceses in which they serve.

In addition, St. Bonaventure Province has its own Safe Environment Commission that oversees the implementation and monitoring of the Province’s Policies, Procedures, and Protocols for Ethical Ministry with Minors and Vulnerable Adults. 

Any allegation regarding the Franciscan Friars Conventual of this Province receives an immediate response. This includes the Province’s full cooperation with local law enforcement authorities and Ordinaries who have ecclesial jurisdiction over these matters, as well as a duly diligent investigation by a qualified third party in order to substantiate credibility.
